My addiction to music.
Geez I don’t know where to start. Music has always been there for me when no one was. It has kept me sane for as long as I can remember. That feeling of rush that makes you shiver and cringe (not in a sexual way) is the best feeling that I’ve ever felt. The best part is that it’s always there. You can play anything, anywhere, anytime. You can vent out all of your emotions by making love with music. What I meant of making love is becoming one with music. Shutting down all external senses and just let the wave of notes course through you. It’s desensitizing, serene, beautiful, and unconditional. I’m not being overly dramatic. For a person who have deep-rooted emotions and experiences, this is a very personal thing for me. I’ll be listing down some of my favorite songs and the reasons why they mean so much to me.
(In no particular order) You may click the link to listen to the song.
My break-up song. Never a day I don’t play this song after you-know-what. I remember crying into it whilst the intro was playing, volume raised to max. And I just started sobbing like crazy on my bed – the silent-sobbing, sort of. It felt like the world was some meaningless void I want to escape from. But that was eons ago. This song brings back the memories I never want to forget. It’s true that when you’re sad, you begin to actually understand the meaning of the lyrics. That’s when your feels get so tangled up you end up a mess. And when the song’s over, you stay in a trance like you’re some kind of delusional freak.
Sample lyrics: “I never meant the things I said to make you cry can I say I’m sorry| It’s hard to forget and yes I regret all these mistakes | I don’t know why you’re leaving me but I know you must have your reasons | There’s tears in your eyes I watch as you cry but it’s getting late.”
This song has so much emotion in it. Isaac Slade is one of my favorite artists of all time. He knows how to convey emotions that don’t sound fake or rehearsed. It has a place in my heart because it’s pretty nostalgic – the times when I feel so small and worthless. I know everyone has gone through this phase. I know it’s pretty absurd to enjoy the darkest and saddest moments of your life but this is when you feel alive and breathing. Life is never meant to be easy. It is when you give up that makes it so worthless.
Sample lyrics: “I said I told you everything, I left something out | Underneath the stairwell |That I’m under lock and key, but you can probably tell | A powder keg in a prison cell.”
This song has a nice beat in it. I actually start my day listening to this. I like how there are so many elements in it that you can’t get enough of. It’s pretty addicting and it keeps you from getting cranky. Yes, I meant that. You suddenly will not care about problems in fact, it gives you that boost to think positively. It’s embedded in the lyrics. My favorite part of this song is the intro – nice beat and suave “breathing”. No one can top loud breathing in a song, especially when it’s too good.
Sample lyrics: “It all feels so typical | Guess I’m looking for a miracle | Rise above it | Rise above it | I don’t care what their telling me | We could be what we want to be | Rise above it | Rise above it.”
There aren’t really that much lyrics in it but it’s something that I would recommend everyone to listen to. If you just want to feel good and relax and feel good, this is definitely the song for you. I am not a music expert but it works on me. Try it on a cold, gloomy night, you will definitely feel the beautiful streets of Berlin come into you (not that I’ve been there). I meant that as a good thing. It’s a 2-minute ear-candy, so give it a shot. I don’t know if it’s the melody or I just got bored listening to screamo bands. Either way, it’s really calming if your nerves are up Mt. Everest or you just want a good night’s sleep.
Sample lyrics: “Ah-ahhh-ahhh-ahah-ahhh…” (I’m serious)
If you find post-apocalyptic zombie wastelands and lost human souls interesting, well, you’re in for a treat! This song is strangely intense and abrasive. To be honest, it’s really hypnotizing – in a good way. I feel high whenever I gouge into it. It creeps into your bones and just stays there, haunting you. And I like songs that last an impression. Although the music video is about stuffed toys fighting which is really weird and disturbing, Radioactive gives you a view of what’s it like out there – beyond the norm. That you can never really escape the fact that a time will come when everything caves in and there’s nothing left of what we call home.
Sample lyrics: “I’m waking up to ash and dust | I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust | I’m breathing in the chemicals | I’m breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus |This is it, the apocalypse.”
That’s five of my favorite songs but I have many more up my sleeves! I know I sounded like an emotional wreck, I don’t deny it by the way. I can’t last a day without my iPod, without my music. I hope you take time to listen and I would like to hear from you guys! Comment your favorite songs and a “musical” discussion will commence. Haha. Thanks!
